Nathan is the
technical force behind making the shots work. His mechanical
experience coupled with a rather impressive stash of spare parts
and imagination makes some of our more complicated effects a
reality. Beyond this, he handles most of the personnel
coordination for extras, which is a job that is sometimes more
mentally tiring than anything else.
Nathan has been
with this group since the first time we ever rolled camera, and has
been given basically every job from choosing music and setting up
scenes, to acting as an emergency tripod. Over his time working with
this group, he has discovered that it is the combination of people who
make our films work. Each person adds their strengths into the
finished product to create something that no single one of us could
have created.
Nathan's involvement with BYJ was supposed to be cut
off recently due to entering into Washington State University.
However, this expected slowdown never actually happened due to the
amazing number of excuses that there are for why he absolutely had to
drive home and film a movie. Combine this continued commitment to the
group with an unbelievable internet speed, he hasn’t been slowed down
at all. His early understanding of special effects and filming was
mostly through his uncle, however, most of his influence comes through
some of the great film karate masters, particularly those who have
embraced new special effects technology. Greats like, Jet Li, Chow
Yun-Fat, Christian Bale, and the machines and techniques that made
Keanu Reeves do those stunts.
"Recent events have taught me to keep my head level in
almost all situations and turned me into a bit of a mystic. I try to
add this way of acting to the group. I see a lot of promise in this
team and I look forward to our continued cooperation."
